Marble Vs. Granite Countertops

Marble Vs. Granite CountertopsMaybe you’re completing a full kitchen renovation or adding extra storage space to your bathroom with a vanity. Either way, you want shining and beautiful new countertops to become the centerpiece of the room. Like many people, you may want natural stone countertops like granite or marble, but are having a hard time choosing between the two. To help you reach a decision, let’s compare the two materials in terms of:

Strength

Marble and granite are two of the hardest naturally occurring materials, which makes them both excellent options for countertops. However, granite has the upper hand and is generally less prone to damage than marble. On the flip side, marble maintains a slightly cooler temperature than granite, making it fairly heat resistant. Both materials are porous, though, so you will need to seal your countertops annually to keep them protected, no matter which material you select.

Appearance

You may think that marble is white while granite is usually dark or multi-colored, but this actually isn’t always the case. Both materials can be found in various colors and veining patterns, although marble usually tends to have more neutral colors and natural swirls while granite looks more speckled. So, don’t assume you’re limited by material based on the look you have in mind.
